The Little Corporal For Boys and Girls, September 1874, Vol XIX, No 3


Offered here is a vintage antique 19th century U.S. children's magazine is: "The Little Corporal For Boys and Girls", Conducted by Emily Huntington Miller, September 1874, Vol XIX, No 3, John E. Miller, Publisher, Chicago - What wonderful cover lithography by Lauderbach.   These have wonderful stories for children, several with wonderful lithography.  The frontis is titled "The Discovery".  Stories in this issue are by Lucia Chase Bell, Joanna H. Mathews, M. B. C. Slade, Sarah Lord Hall, Olive Thorne, Emily Huntington Miller and many more.   These are very, very tough to find in any condition.     Remember, they are 130 years old!!!!   This one is in great condition with extremely minor stressing at the extremities and a chip at the bottom right. It has a small amount of light flocking inside.   There are several wonderful lithographs that go with the children's stories.  Great stuff!!!   You will be hard pressed to find more copies of these - especially in this good condition.

Offered here is a vintage antique 19th century family magazine, "The Pansy",  August, 1894, D. Lothrop Company, Boston, Publisher.  In very-good condition!   A Children's magazine with a moral and Christian lean.  Wonderful stories, children's poetry and serials for children - also letters from stories - Illustrated frontis in each issue and wonderfully illustrated throughout.  Old adds including Ivory Soap on back cover.     The corners are slightly roundes and some pages are slightly flapped - a name written on the cover. 

Isabella Macdonald Alden, daughter of Isaac and Myra Spafford Macdonald, was born in Rochester, N0ew York on November 3, 1841.  It is thought that she was given the nickname "Pansy" by her father.  In addition to being the editor of this weekly children's magazine, she went was a prolific writer and she was a speaker on the Chautauqua circuit. The "Pansy" contributors included numerous relatives and friends.
